From the port you will make your way to Therisso gorge for an easy nature ride amid spectacular scenery and wildlife. The nearest gorge to the city of Chania, this is the only one which can be crossed by car. The beauty of the village of Therisso, built at the foot of the White Mountains, will provide an unforgettable site to behold. Visit the picturesque village of Therisso where the Cretan revolution began in 1905 and changed the local history and enjoy traditional Cretan products, as olives, honey, cheese, tomatoes, moutnain tea .
High mountain tops stand stately in endless blue sky and may appear rough and unfriendly, but in the mountains an ancient tradition is passed from generation to generation for over thousands of years. Animal herding in Crete was a popular profession at one time, today animal herding is still important and although people do not have a goat in their household anymore, shepherds remain a popular profession. Follow them along the 1,400-meter (4500 ft )high White Mountains and visit the traditional Mitato, or shepherd's hut. You will discover how they live, what challenges they face and how they produce cheese using a centuries-old method called graviera.
On your way back to port your guide will explain Cretan life, culture and traditions as you wind through charming traditional villages. There is mythology surrounding the notion of the shepherd on the island considered to be people that have their own perception on life, authority, honor, social life, etc.
Your delicious lunch will consist of a traditional Cretan flavor with Cretan salad and wine.
